Artist Statement
My work reflects my enthusiasm for portraying all facets of life on canvas or paper. Be it through the realism of a still life painting or the whimsical portrayal of figures, I demonstrate my sensitivity and serenity as well as my love of diversity and the human figure through my work. It is my mission and desire to inspire those who view my work with feelings of compassion, joy, and love.
My artwork looks at figures who in the world and the environment. Figures in motion or the rendering of an emotional movement. Often referencing the daily life of just “hanging out” and regular day to day activities. While painting, I love to explore relationships between people, the relationship with the environment as well as the relationship with oneself, as depicted in Misty Blue.
My references may come from walking about the city or on vacation observing the local lifestyle. I love the human figure, I love people, I love people in action, especially people of color. In this work, some paintings focus the beauty of women who are pregnant. Showcasing their strength and grace. Drawing on the pride women possess today when carrying a baby as well as drawing on their sensuality and sassiness.
My signature and point of view are my use of brilliant and vibrant colors, my placement of light, and shadow, as well as my use of highlights. I believe it adds strength and makes for a solid expression of both still life and figurative paintings. Before any composition, I consider the element of push and pull, light and dark, as well as interpreting on canvas, objects near and far.
